The Little Mermaid (Upcoming Film): Cast, Plot, Trailer, Release Date and Everything You Need to Know

‘The Little Mermaid’ is an upcoming American adventure musical fantasy romantic family film.

It is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by Jane Goldman and David Magee.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, it is a live-action adaptation of the 1989 animated film of the same name, which is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of the same name.

The Little Mermaid will feature songs from the original 1989 animated hit, but will also feature new tunes from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Serving as producers are Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the latter whom will co-write new songs for the remake with the original film’s composer/co-songwriter, Alan Menken.

Bailey just shared the first photo with her prince, Eric. They say there’s nothing like a classic, but Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid looks like it’s going to be the dreamiest nautical fairytale yet.

‘The Little Mermaid’ Plot

A young mermaid princess, Ariel makes a Faustian bargain with a sea witch in an attempt to become human and win the love of a human prince. In so doing, she loses her voice.

‘The Little Mermaid (Upcoming Film) Release Date

Filming was originally scheduled to begin in London around late March or early April 2020, but was subsequently delayed by the pandemic.

In December 2020, McCarthy stated that she would hopefully begin filming the movie in January 2021.

On January 31, 2021, principal photography officially begun at Pinewood Studios in Iver, England. Melissa McCarthy’s scenes eventually began filming in April 2021. On April 6, 2021, it was announced that additional filming would be happening in summer for a total of “roughly three months.”

The film is currently in production, with location shoots happening on the Italian island of Sardinia.

The set is located in an environmentally fragile area. Many wild animals usually visit this place.

Some set tricks will be used for filming which include covering a walled window with fake wooden shutters, replace an iron gate with a wooden one, remove some artifacts with subsequent relocation, add plants.
Two cats, one donkey, three hens will also participate in the set.

The film was originally scheduled for release on March 12, 2021, but the production was put on ice due to Wuhan coronavirus. Then it was scheduled to be released on July 9, 2021, but it was delayed again.

Currently, the film has no release date.

Final Words

Grown-ish  star and musician Halle  Bailey’s casting as the mermaid princess marked a big example of how Disney is adding diversity to these stories that primarily featured white cast members before.

Bailey  told, “I feel like I’m dreaming and I’m just grateful and I don’t pay attention to the negativity. I just feel like this role was something bigger than me and greater and it’s going to be beautiful. I’m just so excited to be a part of it.”
