‘Sweet Girl Netflix’ is an upcoming American action drama thriller film.

It is directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza in his feature directorial debut and written by Philip Eisner, Gregg Hurwitz and Will Staples.

The film is produced by Momoa, Brad Peyton, and Jeff Fierson of ASAP Entertainment, with Martin Kistler serving as an executive producer.

‘Netflix’s Sweet Girl’ Plot

Sweet Girl sees Jason Momoa playing a husband who vows to bring justice against the pharmaceutical company responsible for pulling a potentially life saving drug from the market just before his wife (Adria Arjona) dies from cancer.

But when his search for the truth leads to a deadly encounter that puts Ray and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in harm’s way, Ray’s mission turns into a quest for vengeance in order to protect the only family he has left.

Not a huge amount about Sweet Girl has been revealed as of yet, although Netflix did release a few first-look images earlier this month, providing us a first look at Momoa and Merced who are portraying the father and daughter roles of Ray and Rachel Cooper.

‘Sweet Girl Netflix’ Release date

Netflix first announced its acquisition of the revenge movie “Sweet Girl” in July 2019. Principal photography commenced on November 11, 2019 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and wrapped on February 11, 2020.

The film is used Pittsburgh as a primary filming location. Much of the filming was done in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Local news reported filming at a home improvement store called Do It Best, located in Ambridge, PA, which closed its doors to customers for the shoot. The Ambridge Do It Best felt fine when a crew from the Jason Momoa movie “Sweet Girl” was allowed to shoot a scene there.

Ambridge Do It Best general manager David Strano said, “It was very exciting seeing a movie being made from behind-the-scenes”.

Other Pittsburgh shooting locations include PNC Park, home to baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates. For that scene, production brought in “a throng of paid extras” (via The Times). The Times also reported that Boulevard Automotive Center in Big Beaver, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, was used to film a murder scene.

The film’s Pittsburgh shoot was fairly large in scale, with thousands of paid local extras involved and the production on at least once occasion causing traffic jams on the North Side.

Momoa himself was constantly being spotted throughout the Pittsburgh area, including at a Pittsburgh Steelers game, and brightening kids’ days during a visit to Children’s Hospital.

It is scheduled to be released on August 20, 2021 by Netflix.
